Bio:
Angela (Gala) Garrels was born in Michigan in 1975, amidst many lakes and to parents who encouraged outdoor exploration and creative inquiry.  A large volume of the History of Painting and crucially-timed art teachers helped to form her desire to become an artist.  Gala studied painting and received a BFA at Ball State University in Muncie Indiana, and then went on to get her MFA at State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, concluding her formal education in 1999.  She then worked for the art museum at her alma mater, Ball State, and began teaching at the college level that same year.  Soon after, she was married to fellow artist and dearest friend, Zack Bent.  Gala’s first full-time teaching job was at Taylor University, in Upland Indiana, where she broadened her experience by teaching various studio media and contemporary art issues.

In the summer of 2006, Gala moved with her husband and her son to Seattle Washington, where she recently gave birth to their second son, and continues to make artwork and teach part time.  She also writes art reviews and completes odd jobs for Asthmatic Kitty Records.
