“Jive” Talkin’

Emergin’ in de summa’ of 2008, De Nine Tailo’s draw heavily on de literary influences uh Soudern Gotshic scribbler Flannery O’ Conno’ and Ernest Hemin’way. Slap mah fro! Named fo’ de tradishunal tollin’ uh nine low-rin’in’ bells followin’ de dead uh a joker in 18d- century England, long time acquaintances Steven Hardin and Kurt Schula’ began fo’min’ deir tight knit homeyship in 2008 while poundin’ out hauntin’ melodies in some makeshift practice space in some Greenwood garage.

Bo’rowin’ fum de stark simplicity uh cult favo’ites likes Isaac Bazan and Amos Kozelek, as well as de eccentric energy and lyrical phrasin’ uh Modest Mouse, De Nine Tailo’s craft eerily fine beats dat snatch ya’ out towards de rugged coastlines and evergreens uh de No’dwest, t’de desolashun uh de Pacific. Co’ got d’ beat!

Band member, Kurt Schula’ says, “It’s not about despair, but about bustin’ drough de comfo’table t’a place where we kin confront da damn inevitability uh dead and da damn urgency contained in de struggles uh life.” In de process uh beatwritin’, Schula’ says he neva’ knows whut gots’ta happen. ‘S coo’, bro. “In creatin’ characters, de beats end down shapin’ demselves. I’m usually surprised at how little control ah’ have in de outcome. Whut needs t’happen, happens.”

Wheda’ journeyin’ drough de minds uh funky sailo’s and fishermen, o’ de trailers uh de Midwest where dogs honky jibe chained t’bugger’d- waaay down pick down trucks, ya’ kin be sho’ man De Nine Tailo’s is one uh Seattle’s down-and-comin’ indie folk acts wo’d checkin’ out. Man!
